Message from the ISM Southeast Michigan President

Hello ISM Community:

Let me begin by expressing my excitement and honor to be serving as your President.  To understand where this excitement comes from, allow me to provide a brief background.  I’ve been a member of ISM for 30 years, had the honor of serving as President back in 1999, and have been involved in some capacity over the years at the National, Regional, and local levels.   This opportunity brings me full-circle to create opportunities for our members to learn, network and maybe even have some fun.  Many of my personal friendships have been forged via ISM and I hope you will find similar value and reward in being associated with ISM.

Our organizational objective is to “lift people up professionally” while offering opportunities for new professionals to the sourcing and procurement field to learn new concepts, obtain mentoring, while experienced professionals can learn from other industries and provide guidance to those whom are new to our field.  We highlight multiple industries with a sharp focus on Purchasing and Supply Chain management throughout Southeast Michigan.

We have ambitious goals for 2018, with a plan to double our current member base.  We are formulating plans now that will lead to this success, and we welcome your input. We’ve revamped our website, www.ism-sem.org  (many thanks to Bob White, David Rodriguez, and our previous webmaster Ken Doherty) and will be posting key communications about events and initiatives through the site.

We are introducing “Signature events,” four high-profile events featuring top-name speakers as well as professionally moderated panel discussions.  We launched in September with Bev Gaskin from General Motors and Wendy Gentry-Stuenkel from FCA speaking on Risk Management.  Next, on January 23rd, we tackle the hot topic of Big Data with experts from Wayne State, DuPont and Dow providing unique insights.  (register now at www.ism-sem.org).  On April 12th, we will meet at the Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak, where we will hear from Paul Glantz, CEO of Emagine Theaters.  Stay tuned to learn about our next Signature Event soon.

Other ISM opportunities include legal briefings hosted by Jonathan Berg of Bodman Law, and networking events like those held at Jim Brady’s in Royal Oak or Rochester Mills Beer Company.  We hosted an excellent “Unleashing Your Potential” workshop this last November, and will be scheduling similar workshops, webinars, and also C.P.S.M. training opportunities this spring or summer.  Mentoring offers significant benefit to both mentor and mentee and we are looking to possibly roll out a program later this year.

We are also considering a golf outing, potentially partnering with other professional associations.  If you are not a member of ISM Southeast Michigan and would like to stay abreast of all these events and more -  sign up for our weekly email update at: http://ism-sem.org/form.php?form_id=7.

As you can see, we offer significant value to our members. Please share this information with your colleagues, and encourage them to join us.  If you’re not a current member, join today at http://ism-sem.org/join.php for as little $100 per year.

In closing, I’d like to thank our fantastic board for helping create such an engaging and vigorous organization.  And please, feel free to send us your thoughts on events, training opportunities, or any other ideas you’d like to share at info@ism-sem.org.   We look forward to hearing from you, and to having an excellent 2018.

All the best,

Lori Sisk, C.P.S.M., C.P.M

President, ISM Southeast Michigan
